Fishing Reports 2004

November 29 2004

Large fish continue to test anglers as drags are being stripped and inferior lines and knots are being put to the test! Catching large fish on top of humps is different than deep water fishing. A lot of stress is put on the gear when doubles are hooked, the drag system must be tuned for this type of fishing! A huge number of fish have migrated to the inside waters to spawn. These fish are large breeders and fight all the way to the top!

The weather has let go this past week! The boat has made every scheduled trip and the forecast looks good for the up coming week. The fishing is in full Fall time bonanza!! Lots of drifts fill many boxes as anglers double up all 6 at a time! Large Pollock mixed with Cod and Haddock have been hammering jigs outside Gloucester to Tillies Bank.

Fall fishing is great when we can get out, The weather has not been cooperating as more trips are cancelled. The trips we have been betting out on the water has been to choppy for good pictures. A great number of Pollock 10-30 pounds are testing anglers gear. There has been a lot of doubles as these fish definitely school up. Large Cod are in the mix of things, the large spawning schools are just beginning find there grounds. Sorry for the delay in updates, my computer was in a moving box, while I moved into a new house. The boat is ready to go for the winter, I will probably move it to A dock out by the river, that has more sun and the strong tides will keep the ice down. I am trying to come up with a bulletin board where mixed groups can get together to make up a 6 pack group, any web guys that would be willing to help would be appreciated.

Large Cod and lots of Haddock continue to please anglers off Stellwagon Bank. Pesky Dogfish hampered the action last week hopefully the storm will blow them out! Tuna fish have showed up in decent numbers, fishing for them through the dogs has been tough! Bluefish and Bass are in decent numbers close to shore, a few trips had them slamming top water popers for some great action.

Sept 7 2004

Weekend trips were hot as boxes of large Cod filled the back of the Kayman Too! Cod fish to 42lbs bent rods on the east side of Stellwagon Bank. Sundays Tuna trip was exciting! Tuna to over 110 pounds smashed top water lures and screamed drags that were set to there max! This was quite a site as the young kids reeled these monsters to gaff. It seems that all the kids are lucky when it comes to trolling these fish up!!

Tuna have showed up in decent numbers from Stellwagon to Jefferys. These fish are hitting trolled top water lures, it's quite a sight if your eyes are on the rigs when the Tuna smashes it!! Large Cod to 40 pounds are spicing up ground fish trips. A consistent bite of large haddock, and market sized Cod are making most stops non stop action. A few Large wolfish surprise anglers as these toothy critters are brought to gaff. Lots of openings are available into October. The boat is also open for mixed parities on Mondays!

August 20 2004

Cod and Haddock trips are keeping anglers on there feet!! Four anglers took home200 pounds or mostly Haddock yesterday!! Non stop bite have been common place on Stellwagon Bank. Bait is become more apparent every trip, that means the fish should stay and work there way into shallower waters. Large Wolf fish have spiced up the action as well as Cod fish to 40 pounds! Large Bass were feeding heavy for the groups last weekend, The Pat Galleger group had 7 Bass that weighed in 25 - 35 Pounds!! Congrads to these guys who landed these fish on light tackle around lobster gear and the rocks!

Off shore Cod and Haddock trips are seeing the best bite of the season!!! All the folks that think Spring is the best time for ground fish are missing out!! These trips are landing over 100 fish for novices and more for the experienced anglers!! The fish is a mix of mostly Cod and Haddock. Haddock are the finest eating fish in New England!! The largest Haddock we have seen in years are in reach of a day trip aboard the Kayman Too!! We have plenty of opening even Sundays so give us a call!!!! 888 7 KAYMAN Bass have moved into the rocks last week making for a mixed catch of schoolies to nice keeper sized fish. Blues and Tuna are busting bait around the inner shoals.

Mousey landed over 30 of these large Haddocks along with Cod fish on a Marathon trip to the outer shoals! Large Cod have also been in the mix along with several market sized fish!!

July 27 2004

Largest Stripers we have seen in a while come and go with the tides outside Gloucester, between the Blues and the Dogfish are swimming the large bass weighing to 50 pounds. The fish are getting finicky so lighter tackle is needed go get the bite giving anglers more of a challenge to land them. On the offshore trips non stop action of Cod and Large Haddock are testing anglers strength, the lines are not to the bottom any time before reeling them up again! Marathon trips are landing huge numbers of Haddocks and Cod along with Wolfish, Pollock and Cusk!

We have openings...even a few Sundays!!!

June 30 2004

Monster Bass month started with some nice fish but did not produce the amount of fish we are use to seeing of Gloucester. The Blues moved in early and scattered all the bait fish at the beginning of the month. Trolling live baits has been effective for catching these monsters but the dog fish are eating them up faster than the Bass. The marine fisheries has done a great job rebuilding the stocks of dogfish, these nuisance fish are everywhere!

The Cod and Haddock fishing has been good with a steady bite of Large Haddock on most days. The marine fisheries has also done a great job of rebuilding this stock. The Kayman Too has been on many inside old Cod spots where there hasn't been Haddock for years to find non stop a Haddock bite! Many of these Haddock are 28-31 inches long and are great eating....Yummy

A great month for Haddock and Wolfish! Many trips the Haddocks are non-stop action of these tasty creatures coming over the side of the gunwale. A few wolfish have also spiced up the mix. Large Cod have been tough to find, only a few have been taken the last few weeks. There have been a few Halibut landed this Spring, hopefully we can land one as well! Large schools of Mackerel are out front of Gloucester....Large Bass should be in soon!!!

Some of those large fish have come up from the depths, a steady bite of fish 15 to 30 pounds tested anglers on a few trips this past week.

Haddock on these ridges have been like deep offshore water bonanzas! Three trips last week had nonstop Haddock action. At some times all six anglers were hooked up at the same time. These blitzes lasted all day! DSCN0012.JPG (32281 bytes) DSCN0011.JPG (31715 bytes)

April 26 2004

Fishing and the weather has improved. We got out several times with a few slower trips in the middle of the month and improving every day. Some bait has finally moved in to the local waters, that brings in the Cod as well as a good number of nice sized Haddocks.

We haven't seen the monsters that we saw the last few years, these fish spawned early and are now laying in the deepwater waiting for warmer water and more feed. Once this happens we should be able to get them to bite in manageable depths. June is going to be the hot month this year!

A few Steaker Cod along with nice tasty Haddocks have been filling the fish totes..

Mike and his Dad both caught some nice Cod and Haddocks outside Gloucester.

April 5 2004

The weather has only allowed us to get out a few days a week.. When will it break??? Last week we fished in close to Gloucester with one poor day of fishing and the rest pretty good. While most of the fish have been market size a hand full to 20 lbs. and an occasional whale Cod does get hefted over the gunwale.

Bait has just started to arrive on the outer edges of the deep water. The water temp is still 37 degrees! I think all the good fishing is yet to come. May in to June are my predictions for the hot months this year...Stay tuned.

Crappy weather with rain did not have me snapping many photos last week.

March 29 2004

Finicky fish have tested anglers and the Captain this week. The fish have only eaten on certain spots in the tide. Some days the bite is early while others we wait for the tide to turn. The boat has returned with limits every day!

March 20 2004

When the weather cooperates we are on the Fish!! Large cod test anglers arms and skills in some rough weather fishing. Today we got a break with no wind and an easterly swell. The group limited out on Steaker sized Cod.

Dave Boiselle who has been fishing on the Kayman Too for at least 10 years brought is boy Ryan out for some Steaker Cod action. Ryan did great with the new rod and reel he got for Christmas!!

Hot fishing on spots from Jefferys to Stellwagon continue. Fish are feeding on herring and off the bottom. Anglers are slamming fish on Jigs and bait setups. March has always provided us with Steaker sized fish, this year has been no exception!

These guys from Rode Island came to Gloucester to put a hurting on the large Cod population!

Thanks again for fishing on the Kayman Too!!

March 10 still has 3 spots give us a call 888 752 9626 and we will book you. The cost is $ 170.

The fishing has been very consistent, no record breakers yet...I have been out four times and seen a definite increase in the size of fish in the last few trips. Today all the fish were running 15 lbs and up. The spawning beds are filling up with the big breeders that break records. The next few weeks should be hot!!

We still have some weekdays open in March and April..Don't hesitate they are going fast.

Bumpy weather and a broken camera only allowed me to take a few pics.
