Blue-fin Tuna Endangered Species??

Friday, January 7th, 2011

As the Lisa&Jake and the Kayman Too get some love in dry dock I attended a “listing session” on Making Bluefin Tuna an endangered species. Thats right! for anyone who has a boat or fished on our boats the countless days of seeing Tuna busting from right outside the harbor to some of our spots 30 miles offshore.

This was petitioned by folks in Arizona to make Blue-fin endangered.  It was presented to NOAA who did not see any reason that Blue-fin Tuna should not be put on the endangered list.
Shame on them for using old data that was catch data only and basically for commercial size fish! This cost you your  tax dollars for five meetings houses plane fares and many administrative hours, to figure out that they don’t know what they are talking about.
It was made quite clear by approximately 100 fisherman and spotter pilots that there are so many juvenile and large Tuna of all different year classes on feeding days you can walk on them from Canadian waters down to the Jersey coast!
It was great to see a good turn out in Boston and I hope Maine goes the same way.
What will happen next;
After the Public Comment NOAA will evaluate the data and make a ruling by May 24th.
If all the comments were ignored and these meetings were a government parse and this Arizona group is tied into Obamas appointed environmentalist Dr Jane Lavabitch on May 24th they will rule Blue-fin Tuna an endangered species!
What does that mean?
Endangered species means NO TAKE or attempt to take. Yes no fishing for yellow fin or albacore swords ect…you might catch a Blue- fin Tuna!
Keep an eye on the actions of Jane Lavabitch and write any letter you can to stop here wasting your tax dollars to support these do gooders and put thousands of people out of work and take away a great public resources!

Pollock and Giant Tuna

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

The Pollock fishing remained hot as ever! We put as much as the group wanted around 900 lbs that turns into around 300 lbs of fillet for the group. We then moved on to try for some Giants.

The baits were deployed and 20 minutes later we were on! The boys fought the fish for 40 minutes and landed a 389 lb Blue-fin!
After returning to the anchor with the fish still bleeding on the side of the boat a new bait was placed in the same spot and bamm! We were on again!
Unfortunatly the hook got pulled on this one the fish was lost.

Thank to Dennis Maher group from Ma for a great job!

Pollock Fishing is RED HOT

Thursday, November 11th, 2010
As the Cod has come to a close in the Gulf of Maine, we turn our targets to the very aggressive Pollock. Everyone has caught a Pollock or two but unless you have experienced Fall Pollock fishing on the Kayman you haven’t been!
The Pollock gather up into giant schools this time of the year to spawn. It is not uncommon to see them up to 50ft thick, {the school we were on the other day was about 30ft thick.}
These fish are starving because when in the spawn they don’t actively target food. When a jig or anything that moves it put in front of them they inhale it !
These are the strongest fighting fish for their size!
We rig the leaders with 200lb test line to aviod breaking the jigs and teasers apart, even 100lb test will break with two of these aggressive fish fighting each other!
Almost every drop all 6 anglers will come up with doubles. This fills the boat quickly as over 1000lbs of fish can be put on in no time at all!

Cod fishing charter lands Tuna!

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

Nov 7 2010

The last week of Cod season ended with some banner days with boats limiting out on large Cod to a day were there was virtually no bite and all the fish that came in were snagged.
The Frankie-Pollozia group from Chiccopee had there first annual trip in honor of there Dad Frank who was a long time Cod fisherman. Frankie made several trips aboard both the Kayman Too and the Lisa and Jake over the years. Frank spent every spare hour tying and constructing different jigs and teaser setups to catch the big one. His son Mike said that is what kept him going in his last years. Frankie was sure to try every rig he made before the end of the day! Sometimes that meant missing the bite to ensure the new rig was tried and tested! Frank was featured in a Kayman Charter video catching 30 plus pound Cod fish with his specialty rigs.
Frank was said to be looking down on the boys on the day of his first annual trip when the boys were done filling the boat with large Cod he sent a hungry 600lb Tuna their way looking to eat. A 130 class reel was deployed and the fight was on! The group took turns bringing the fish with in range of a harpoon shot that landed them the largest fish of there life!
Stay with us Frankie and may you rest in peace!
November trips have started with lock and load Pollock fishing! Saturdays trips on the Kayman Too and the Lisa&Jake saw that it only took a couple of drifts to test the strength of Anglers! Pollock to 25 lbs were peeling drag and snapping lines faster than  you could ever imagine unless you have already experienced this fishing on the Kayman hot spots! Only doubles were hooked that means every drop you had to reel up 25-45 lbs of fish! Needless to say over 1000 lbs of fish were on the deck before the buzzer rang!
The boats will continue to run until Dec and as long as the fishing stays good!

Cod Fishing New England

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Oct 1 2010

Last week was a decent week of Cod and Haddock fishing. Codfish were landed in the mid 20 lb range as well as an amount of short fish that were released for next year. It has been a big mix of fish as some really large Cusk to over 20 lbs have been landed as well as some of the Fall Slammer Pollock that have already shown up. Haddock have all been nice size stuff that have been making some great fillets for the dinner plate. Most of the fishing has been done jigging on Tillies Bank to the east side of Stellwagon were fish have been spread out for most of the summer.
Don’t miss out on some great fishing before old man winter is knocking on your door step. Call or visit www.kaymancharters.com today

Deep sea fishing New England

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

North east storms beginning of the week kept the boats tied to the dock for a few days. The return to the sea on the week end provided a stir up with Tuna reappearing in good numbers! A handful of recreational size fish showed up chasing half-beaks to there fearful death!

Unfortunately the Lisa & Jake hooked a larger one on the lighter gear that after a long battle straightened out a Tuna Hook. Exhausted anglers were disappointed with the return of the broken hook.
Cod and Haddock fishing was as it was before the blow with the exception of some fish moving into the closer grounds. A 24 pound Pollock was taken as well as some nice Cod to 20 lbs on one of the inside spots!
Cod fishing has been the best this Summer and looks great going forward!
Book now to ensure your spot to fill your freezer for the winter!
Split trip openings still has a few spots on Fri Sept 3 visit kaymancharters.com to sign up.

Tuna fishing reports Gloucester

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Tuna, Tuna everywhere! No matter where you go you will see Tuna crashing and surface feeding! From right outside Gloucester out to our furthest Haddock spots at some points during the day they are as far as you can see. Placing the right baits in the right spots gets the unbelievable hook up and fight of your life!

A ton of action the last few days with multiple hook ups and fish landed to 180lbs.Fishing with the kite gets anglers involved in fine tuning the right bait preparation and watching the Tuna explode on the surface bait!
The bottom bite also remains steady as Cod and Haddock are being jigged up from the deeper waters of the banks. Cod to 21 pounds slammed jigs last week along with mostly large Market sized fish mixed in with some Bull Haddocks.
The Strong moon tide made it tough for a few groups who did an excellent job rotating around the boat to keep the lines straight.
Aug 13 is a Split Tuna trip 4 person Max call or email for more info

New England deep sea charters

Friday, July 16th, 2010

Cod fishing remains good to great! Some of the inshore spots opened up last week with anglers limiting out in no time with 10-20lb fish! There are some real nice schools of Cod fish around and getting on them has not been a problem. All the action has been on jigs and teasers non working better than others.

Split Tuna trips grabbed a 175 pound Bluefin Tuna last week on the troll. This fish was fought by all on a 50 series stand -up rig with a harness. The fight lasted one and a half hours!
Next split trip is July 27th a few more open spots visit www.kaymancharters.com to sign up

Cod and Haddock fishing Stellwagon Bank

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Haddock fishing in the deeper waters was the best we have seen for an early Spring bite. Haddock to 14lbs with a 7 lb average took the place of Cod fishing this late Winter into early Spring!

This fishing has now been replaced by the fast action of the Cod fish. Totes of Large Market sized fish have been filling quickly.Jigs and anything you have in your tackle box will hook some of these hungry fish. It has not taken long to limit out and go to look for some close by Haddock to finish out the day.
A few wolf fish have also been taken in the mix. We will only be able to post this for 2 more weeks when then ban on taking Wolfys will be in effect. After May 1 you must carefully reach into the fishes mouth to remove the hook and return the toothy critter to the depths of the Atlantic

March 14 2010

The Lisa and Jake is back in the water and ready to go. Not starting out good with this weekends Haddock bonanza blown out. Hopefully the bad weather will move on through soon.
The Haddock reports have been good as a lot of anglers with cabin fever are waiting to fill there freezers with these tasty fillets. We still have some pre April 15th openings as the Haddock trips dont fill as quickly as the Cod.
There are still Shared Charter openings in May. If you are not on the mailing list you can sign up at www.Kaymancharters.com or just give a call and we will set you up.
We will be at the Providence Salt water show this weekend and will be the last of the Sportshows for this year. We will be featuring the new Kaymancharters T-shirts they will be on sale at the boats as well this year.
