Cod fishing has been nothing but spectacular from the waters off Gloucester to Stellwagon Bank and beyond! Nice Cod averaging 15 lbs have been Hammering jigs of all types shapes and sizes and colors!
Large fish last week was a close battle all week with fish in the high twenty pound range that finally got broken Saturday with Todd Carrier landing a 30.9 lb Cod! Congrats to him as he took a $240 pot from his fellow anglers!
Haddock as well as Pollock have been filling the gap of being limited out on Cod in the early hours. Some days the fish come to fast with clients reaching there Cod limits in under an hour!

Cod and Haddock Regs Amendment 16

Under Amendment 16, the average catch of these stocks by each component during fishing years 2001-2006 was used to caculate the commercial/recreational allocation for these stocks. This resulted in a recreational allocation of 27.5% of the groundfish for the Guf of Maine Haddock and 33.7% for Cod

The allotment is as follows

Codfish  5,892,956 pounds

Haddock 714,298 pounds

Haddock limit has been reduced to 18 inches no bag limit

Cod remains at 24 inches Bag limit of 10 per angler

Hook restrictions have been lifted

Halibut has been increased to 41 inches

If the recreational fishery exceeds its yearly allocation of GOM Cod or Haddock as listed above, NMFS will adjust the recreational season,limits or sizes for the following years

Cod and Haddock fishing Stellwagon Bank

Haddock fishing in the deeper waters was the best we have seen for an early Spring bite. Haddock to 14lbs with a 7 lb average took the place of Cod fishing this late Winter into early Spring!

This fishing has now been replaced by the fast action of the Cod fish. Totes of Large Market sized fish have been filling quickly.Jigs and anything you have in your tackle box will hook some of these hungry fish. It has not taken long to limit out and go to look for some close by Haddock to finish out the day.
A few wolf fish have also been taken in the mix. We will only be able to post this for 2 more weeks when then ban on taking Wolfys will be in effect.After May 1 you must carefully reach into the fishes mouth to remove the hook and return the toothy critter to the depths of the Atlantic

Cod Fishing Charters Ma

The Haddock Bonanza continues with lock and load fishing in the deeper water! Some days the wait for the big bite is painful but has been turning into doubles as soon as you drop!  The boxes fill quickly when these hungry silver beauties gather to feed. This has been a better fishery than the Cod as there are no limits, no pulling back up on the drift. It has been all anchoring keeping the bow into the wind making for comfortable fishing even in the nastiest of days!

Cod opens up this week so we will keep our focus on the brown spotted ones and as always looking to find the larger ones!

Here is the boats Furuno fish finder, as you can see the Haddock are 10-15 ft thick as shown on the left part of the screen. on the right is fish hooked up and being brought to the top. Once they get to 100 ft the machine enlarges them. these were all doubles if you look closely.

Cod Fishing Kayman Charters Ma

The boats have done an excellent job on the Haddock this week! With the Cod still closed all the concentration has been on the Haddock migration patterns.
With a few past years fishing logs and a graph Capt. Kevin and Capt. Rob have been moving with the tide cycle and date patterns to stay into the main school of these Haddock.
Each day the boats have topped 150 Haddock with the top day 220 Haddock. Now that is some great eating! Some of these Haddock topped 12 pounds and there are a ton of 7-9 lbers
The Cod fishing will start this week there are only 2 split days open until the end of May so don’t hesitate if you have been looking to get out on one of the boats.Visit kaymancharters.com for latest reports and information.
