Despite the great weather the boat stayed tied up last week so no
updated fish report, Last trip out Haddock and Pollock were very
abundant and all hands filled all the boxes on deck! The water column
was filled with herring and Mackerel and butter fish, that all the
fish were coughing up as they came on deck!
We have been working diligently on the new lodge! the new kitchen is
in along with the new patio for cook outs! all new beds are being
brought in for a good nights sleep before and after your trip!
It is sure to be a hit once the bar and flat screen TV makes its way
into the den.
Give a call for a winter trip the weather has been cooperating as well
as the fishing!

Haddock has been our prime target lately although the boat has not been leaving the dock much. We did find a few pockets of nice sized Haddock the last couple of trips. There were also schools of Pollock swimming through that caught anglers of guard a few times. The Lisa and Jake will remain active for those who wish to venture out the heater will be running!

Santa did visit us this year and went fishing to show us what our gift was!

Santa visits the Kayman Too
Some great Pollock fishing happened this Fall with many anglers begging for mercy and crying uncle! As the Pollock reach their peak before spawning they are very agressive. These schools of fish follow the boat in search of a meal, that means there is no break in hooking up.
Large predators also find their way into this feeding frenzy. This large shark was gobbleing up 15 pound Pollock like a hungry dog!
Henry musles open the Jaws of this critter!
Merry Christmas to all!

Fall Pollock fishing is in full swing! This year they have been huge! Top fish today was 35 pounds and many 25-30 pounders! These fish are hanging on deep water peaks and are getting hungrier every day as more and more fish gather for their annual spawn fest. Jigging has been the way to go and single or combination seems to do the trick with the right presentation. Plenty of weekday openings don’t miss out on this great fishing! Spring weekends as well as the lodge are filling fast make sure you get your spot! Visit Kayman Charters.com or give us a call!

As the end to our 2011 Cod season nears we are already on Pollock and saddened by the lack of Cod to end the season that has been in all the past years lock and load! The boats have been on good schools of Pollock the past week that typically group up this time of year and make for some great large fish angling! Pollock fishing typically has gotten better as the weather cools right into mid December! Haddock have also been accessible in most spots to add to the catch.
Large Tuna were caught last week! another 800 pound Blue fin was landed by a wedding party from Canada! These folks own a fly in lodge in central Canada that fish for walleye. Well as the boredom loomed of Tuna fishing the seas sickness settled in with the post storm swells but all was about to change!. Then it happened, the 130 Shimano light up as it almost ran out of the Dacron backing until the fish came to a holt. The weary anglers had to forget the walleye skills and learn Big Game fishing Gloucester style. A few quick lessons on bent but swivel rod holder fishing and these folks were good to go!
The battle lasted 90 minutes. It was 90 minutes of 8-10 minute shifts on the rod. Each angler took a turn, saesickness left some and contiued in others, but they kept the rod bent! When the rod was not bent the captain seemed to just yell REEL over and over until he was horse and couldn’t yell any more! The fish was up and down for the last 20 minutes of the fight, the captain fought the building sea to keep the boat out of the fishes way. Before the anglers knew what was happening the mammoth fish surfaced and the harpoon was launched into the fish. It was pissed! The fish screamed out 100 ft of what was now 70 lbs of drag on thr rod and a harpoon rope in its back. With good work of the Captain and Mate the fish was tail roped and the Canadian folks have some great stories and picture to tell at the wedding!
Kayman Charters will be opening their lodge in March of 2012! and is now taking reservations for March 2012. Come check out this awesome place to stay while visiting Gloucester!
Friday November 4 is a split trip visit kaymancharters.com to sign up!

The Boats have been working on schools of Cod, Haddock and Pollock! A real mixed bag the last couple of week with some days lock and load conditions and some days a pick of a little of everything.A few of the Pollock have been in the 25 pound range along with some of the Cod. The tackle has been a mixed bag as well, Both jigs and bait are working , some drifts the Haddock are hitting the jigs over the bait! Large Blue Sharks are still visiting every day, these Sharks are hungry and want your fish more than the angler. For those who like to fight big game the wire line is deployed and these Sharks, some 300 pounds and up are quite a battle on stand up gear!

Cod and Haddock trips this week were killer on some days and slow on others, A few days the Large Cod to 25 pounds slammed jigs as they hit the bottom! The mix of Large Pollock also brought anglers to the rail as the rods doubled over. This bite was an early bite and then the focus was moved to bait fishing were some nice Cod as well as Large Haddock were landed. Unfortunately the pesky dogfish took over on a few afternoons damping efforts of anglers.
Last weeks Tuna trips landed slot fish 60-72 inches that were released to grow for another day. The fish hit live herring that was fished below the surface on set lines. The crews were great anglers maneuvering around the boat and releasing the fish!
Fall fishing and freezer stocking is about to begin! October has notoriously been a great month to limit out on large Cod. Stay tuned for split trip dates in October!

Some Slammer Pollock have been surprising anglers jigging for Cod! Some of these brutes that are bringing anglers to their knees have topped the 25 pound range! Some Large Cod to 20 pounds have also been boated. The anglers have had to work hard on the jigs to get the fish to bite. Some nice Haddock have also been caught on the bait but dogfish hamper the action on some days.Recreational Tuna were caught last week fish under 59 inches were kept but those 70 inch fish get released, anglers enjoy the fight and the beautiful colors of the fish in the water is quite a site. One spot left on the Sept 14 shared trip and the Sept 19 trip is wide open. see Kaymancharters.com to sign up

Fishing remains steady on the Cod and Haddock as well as the Tuna! Craig Young landed a 350 pound Blue fin Tuna earlier this week on a live mackerel he jigged up inside the harbor in the early morning.
Young Jake was on the boat mid week and he also was an excellent angler and fought a 200 pound Tuna to gaff. Some of these fish have been wild dumping 45 pounds of drag on the Shimano 130’s over and over again. The speed of the line dumping out at this incredible rate is quite a site to see!
The Todd Carrier group landed the fish of their life time last week as an 800 pound Giant Tuna inhaled their offering! The Shimano 130 light up like nobody’s business mid day in a fleet of boats, the reel was almost spooled when we got off the anchor and started chasing the fish between anchor lines and boats! The crew did an excellent job letting the fish run when told to and keeping the line tight to dance the boat out of harms way!
Forty minutes into the fight the Giant surfaced and thrashed around leaving a huge spray of white water and an incredible sight! We then got on top of the fish to put him into the death spiral and came up for an easy harpoon shot after 70 minutes!
Congrats to the whole group who all took turns and brought this fish to tail rope in a nice smooth way!
Â
Cod and Haddock was dampened by Dogfish at a few stops but some nice sized Haddock and Cod were brought in despite the abundance of Dog fish, Cod to 20 pounds and nice 8-9 pound Haddocks made for lots of tasty fillets for anglers.
Kayman Charters is gearing up for the Fall Cod season which is usually a sold out event into the end of October, if you have plans on stocking your freezer with Cod book your trip soon as dates will be filling in. Next split trip is Sept 14 and Sept 19 see kaymancharters.com to sign up
